Frédéric Millot is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Poitiers  (France) and currently heads the pediatric department of the University Hospital of Poitiers. He is recognized for his clinical research concerning childhood chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and he has published many peer-reviewed articles in this field. Professor Millot chairs the pediatric CML committee of the International BFM  study group (I-BFM). He is the coordinator of the international registry of childhood CML (I-CML-Ped study) and he set up the International pediatric CML expert board in order to give advices for complex pediatric cases.

Professor Mittelman graduated from the Sackler School of Medicine in 1976, and served in the Israel Medical Corps (IDF), before completing a Residency in Internal Medicine at the Hasharon Hospital, Petah-Tikva, Israel. He later undertook a Combined Clinical and Research Fellowship Programme in Hematology and Oncology at the George Washington University Medical Center, Washington DC, USA, and The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethseda, USA. Professor Mittelman returned to Israel in 1989 and has since held several posts at the Hasharon Hospital and Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. Moshe has also served as President of the Israel Society of Internal Medicine, Secretary of the Israel Society of Hematology, a Hematology Consultant for the Israel Ministry of Health, and is currently the President of the Israel Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine.

Among other academic and public duties, Prof Mittelman served as a member of the National Health Basket (Vaadat Sal) committee, and as a member of the Israel Medical Association (HARI) Scientific Committee. As a chairman of the Student Admission Committee of the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine, Dr Mittelman led the novel admission program, combining scholastic scores with personality and behaviour as evaluated parameters for medical school candidates. He has also served as a member of the National Council for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer; a member of the Board of Directors of the Israel Medical Association (Haaguda) and as a consultant for biotechnology firms. As a biotech expert he is responsible for 2 patents, leading to start-up companies. He is currently the chief scientific officer of a biotech fund.

Professor Mittelman’s research interests include basic and clinical aspects of multiple myeloma, stem cell disorders such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and basic and clinical effects of erythropoietin. He has co-authored more than 200 publications, including textbook chapters and articles, published in journals such as Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Haematologica, British Journal of Haematology and Experimental Hematology.

Later this year, Dr Mittelman will complete his term as Chairman, Department of Medicine, at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and will continue to serve as a hematology consultant, in addition to his post as a full clinical professor affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Alison Moskowitz is an Associate Attending in the Department of Medicine and the Clinical Director of the Lymphoma service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She earned her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, and then completed a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Moskowitz’ research program in Hodgkin lymphoma focuses on developing novel treatment approaches for patients with relapsed or refractory disease and identifying factors predictive of response to therapy and overall outcomes.  The aim of this work is to ultimately develop individualized therapy for patients with Hodgkin lymphoma that optimizes cure and limits long-term toxicity.

Ilaria Elena Palamà is a permanent researcher at CNR-NANOTEC in Lecce, with several years’ research experience in nanotechnology with an emphasis on Nanoparticles (NPs) for gene/drug delivery in leukemia cells as demonstrated by numerous ISI papers. She received a Master Degree in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Bari (2008) and a PhD in Smart System and Technology-Nanoscience, with honours, from Salento University (Lecce, 2012). For her research activity, she has been awarded several national and international prizes. She currently works with a team of 3 postdoctoral researchers, 3 PhD students and 1 research assistant and has active collaborations with other local, national and international research groups.

Dr Pia Raanani MD is Clinical Full Professor in Hematology at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University. She has been Head of the Division of Hematology and Hemato-oncology at the Rabin Medical Center, Petah-Tikva Israel since 2013.

Her primary field of interest is hemato-oncology, particularly leukemias and lymphomas, and specifically CML. She is the medical advisor of the Israeli CML advocate group. Dr Raanani trained in hematology at the Sheba Medical Center and completed a fellowship in CML at the Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London. In 2007 she established the Hemato-oncology Hospitalization Unit at the Davidoff Cancer Center, Rabin Medical Center and headed it until 2018. Dr Raanani is active in the academic life of the Tel-Aviv University: she is a member of several committees, was Head of the Department of Hematology of the Faculty between 2010–2014 and has been Head of the Research Funds Committee of the Sackler School of Medicine since 2014.

Dr Raanani is on the Editorial board of several international hematology journals and a member of the Editorial board of the prestigious Cochrane collaboration. She is a member of the Israeli Society of Hematology as well as the European Hematology Association and the American Society of Hematology. Since 2015 she has served as Ambassador for Israel of the MD Anderson Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO).

Dr. Raanani has been in the steering committee and has chaired several international scientific meetings in recent years in the field of oncology and hemato-oncology in particular.

Dr Raanani is a co-author of nearly 200 peer-reviewed articles as well as chapters in books. Since July 2017 she is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Acta Haematologica.

Gideon Rechavi received an MD from Tel‑Aviv University in 1981 and a PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science. He is board certified in Hematology, Pediatrics, and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. He is Professor of Hematology and holds the Djerassi Chair in Oncology, Tel Aviv University. He served as head of the Division of Hematology, Sackler School of Medicine and as head of the Tel Aviv University Cancer Biology Research Center.

In 1992 he was appointed head of the Pediatric Hematology‑ Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Department at the Sheba Medical Center and in 1999 he established the Sheba Cancer Genomics Unit, a leading Israeli center for medical genomics. In 2003 he established the Sheba Cancer Research Center, which he heads and from 2016 he heads the Wohl Institute for Translational Medicine.

His main research interests are RNA epigenetics, transposable genetic elements and cancer genomics with special emphasis on pediatric cancer. In recent years his laboratory became a leading facility for genomic analysis where genes involved in a variety of monogenic diseases are identified. His group is now involved in the study of “orphan” genetic diseases aiming at the development of indidividualized genetic therapy.

He has published 500 articles in the most prestigious journals including Nature, Cell, Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and many more.

He has been awarded numerous prizes and research grants including the EMET prize for Genetics and an ERC Advanced Grant. He was selected for the Ernest and Bonnie Beutler Research Program of Excellence in Genomic Medicine.

Rechavi is a member of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences and a member of the Israeli Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Israel Prize in Medical Research in 2020.

Jacob Michael Rowe, MD, F.A.C.P.

Dr. Rowe is chief of the Department of Hematology and the Ann and Pinky Sohn Chair in Hemato-Oncology at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, and Emeritus Professor at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa. He is a past Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester and a former chief of the Hematology and BMT Department at the Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa, Israel.  He has actively participated in a wide range of national and international research projects and initiatives. He is a former chairman of the Leukemia Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and has developed and chaired many national and international phase II and III studies in leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and BMT.

He has received many prestigious awards, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2014.  Dr. Rowe is the designated editor-in-chief of Haematologica, a past associate editor of Blood and Leukemia, as well as a former editor-in-chief of Blood Reviews and Best Practice & Research: Clinical Hematology.  Dr. Rowe is also on the editorial boards of multiple hematology journals.  Dr. Rowe is a frequent invited speaker or chairman at international meetings and has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters.

Giuseppe Saglio, MD

Giuseppe Saglio is a Professor of Haematology and Internal Medicine at the University of Turin. He is Head of the Division of Haematology at the Mauriziano Hospital in Turin. Professor Saglio is coordinator of the PhD programme in Medicine and Experimental Therapy of the University of Turin. He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of molecular pathogenesis of haematological diseases, molecularly targeted therapy and molecular characterization of haematological malignancies.

During his postdoctoral research, Dr. Shlush examined genes commonly mutated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), successfully identifying those “pre-leukemic” stem cells that go on to form cancerous cells. In his more recent work, Dr. Shlush used population-wide medical data available through a large repository of electronic health records (the Weizmann-Clalit project), along with deep sequencing techniques, to characterize the genes frequently mutated in the peripheral blood cells of individuals who later developed AML. Not only did this work form the basis of a model that accurately predicted AML-free survival, it also led to a model for identifying healthy individuals who are at risk for developing AML in the future. This research by Dr. Shlush and his colleagues represents a paradigm shifting in AML, which has long been considered as an unpredictable and unpreventable disease. It will also generate an enthusiasm toward the possibility of AML prevention through early intervention in a high-risk population.

Galia Spectre received her MD from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel in 1997 and subsequently specialized in Internal Medicine & Hematology at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. She was a PhD fellow at the Karolinska University, in Stockholm Sweden Between 2006-2009 and subsequently a senior physician at the hematology department and coagulation unit at Hadassah Medical center.  She was awarded her PhD from Karolinska on 2014 on the subject of platelet function in diabetes mellitus.  Since 2015 she serves as the head of Thrombosis and Haemostasis unit in the division of hematology, Rabin Medical Center, Petah Tikva, Israel. The Unit provide consultations to all hospital departments as well as outpatient clinics. Her main subjects of research are blood platelets and thrombin generation in various diseases, and oral anticoagulants.

Dr. St. Louis is appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Minnesota. Dr. St Louis is on her career path to establish a translational research program in immune restoration disorders (IRD). She is involved in a number of clinical studies within the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine (IDIM) examining the immunopathogenesis of IRD, with an emphasis on defining predictive and diagnostic biomarkers.

Her primary research focuses on identification of biomarkers of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in AIDS patients after initiation of antiretroviral therapy. Additionally, Dr. St. Louis leads the collaboration with the Division Hematology-Oncology and Transplantation, on virus-specific immune reconstitution after various hematopoietic cell transplantation regimens.

Wendy Stock, MD

Dr. Stock obtained her BS in biology from the University of Illinois, a MA in zoology from the University of California, Davis and graduated from Rush Medical College in 1985.  From 1985-1988, she was a resident in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed her hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago in 1993. Dr. Stock is a tenured Professor of Medicine where she led the leukemia program at the University of Chicago for 19 years and where she was also a co-leader of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Program in Hematopoiesis and Hematological Malignancies.  At a national level, she currently serves as co-chair of the Leukemia and Leukemia Clinical and Correlative Sciences Committees in the Alliance, a NCI-sponsored clinical trials cooperative group that leads national and international trials in leukemia clinical research, and recently completed a term as the first chair of the NCI national clinical trials network (NCTN) Leukemia Steering committee, the committee which sets the agenda for all NCI sponsored large phase II and III trials in leukemia in the United States.

Dr. Stock is an expert in clinical and correlative laboratory research involving acute leukemias. Her focus has been to design biologically risk-adapted clinical trials for patients with acute leukemias, leading national trials for treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) that have helped to change the standard of care for young adults with this disease.  Dr. Stock has also established a young adult leukemia clinic at the University of Chicago which she runs jointly with her pediatric colleagues and which is committed to providing innovative research trials and clinical care to this patient population.  She has focused on identifying new biological prognostic factors in specific subsets of leukemia that lead to novel clinical trial design and has focused particularly on the clinical significance of molecular detection and monitoring of subclinical disease (or minimal residual disease) using quantitative molecular methods.

Dr. Stock has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, reviews and book chapters and serves as Associate Editor of the new journal of the American Society of Hematology, Blood Advances.  She also served on the American Board of Internal Medicine hematology board that prepares the board certification examination in hematology.  She has received a number of awards including the Gold DOC award for humanism in medicine, and is listed as a “Top Doctor” by both Chicago magazine, Newsweek magazine and US News and World Report. In 2014, she was awarded an endowed chair, the Anjuli Seth Nayak Chair for Leukemia Research, by the University of Chicago.  She has received a number of mentorship awards including the Arthur Rubinstein Mentorship award from the University of Chicago department of Medicine, the Department of Medicine Resident teaching award, and the Distinguished Clinician award from the Biological Sciences Division of the University of Chicago.  Dr. Stock recently received the “Researcher of the Year” award from the Illinois chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America and a director’s scientific leadership award by the National Cancer Institute.

Richard Stone, MD, is the Chief of Staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).  He is also Director of Translational Research for the Leukemia Division of Medical Oncology at DFCI, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Stone is nationally recognized for his translational and clinical research concerning blood and bone marrow malignancies including acute leukemia, myeloproliferative disorders and myelodysplastic syndrome [MDS] (a bone marrow failure state that may convert to leukemia).

In addition to his work at Dana-Farber, Dr. Stone serves as Chairman of the Leukemia Core Committee for the national cooperative trials group, Alliance.  He is a Vice Chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) MDS panel and is also a member of the NCCN AML panel.  He has been the Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation, the Chair of the ABIM Oncology Board, and served on the editorial boards of Leukemia Research, Blood and Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Stone has extensively participated in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as graduate medical education courses on leukemia and related disorders.  He is the author of many academic papers that have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Leukemia as well as numerous other journals.  He had a significant leadership role in the development of five new drugs for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that were approved in the past two years.

Dr. Stone earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1981.  He

completed his internal medicine residency training and served as Chief Medical Resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  He completed his hematology-oncology fellowship at Dana-Farber.

She leads clinical studies in these and other fields.
